Urea as the basic component in pyridine-free Karl Fischer reagent.
نویسنده
چکیده
A solution of urea, sulphur dioxide and sodium salicylate in methanol is proposed as the solvent in the Karl Fischer titration, with a separate iodine solution as titrant. Comparison of the performance of this solvent with that of some commercial reagents shows that it is has distinct advantages for use with amine samples.

Determination of water in organic solvents by flow-injection analysis with Karl Fischer reagent and a biamperometric detection system.
A flow-injection system with a biamperometric flow-through detector provided with two platinum plate electrodes was tested for the determination of water with a two-component pyridine-free Karl Fischer reagent. The response was shown to be linear in the concentration range 0.03-0.11% water in methanol, ethanol or 2-propanol, with methanol as the carrier solvent. The maximum sampling frequency w...
متن کاملThe Basics of Karl Fischer Titration
From the reaction mechanism, it's evident that the reagent used for the titration needs to contain the following: Alcohol methanol was used originally, but in different variations of the reagent can be replaced by ethyl carbitol, methoxypropanol, ethanol, etc. Sulfur dioxide Iodine Base pyridine was used initially, but has since been replaced by imidazole, which assures a higher rate of reactio...

The highly substituted pyridine derivatives are found to exhibit diverse pharmacological activities. They are also emerged as potential medicinal leads in developing therapeutic agents for the treatment of various diseases. In this work, a series of 2-amino-3,5-dicarbonitrile-6-thio-pyridine derivatives have been synthesized at room temperature via one-pot, multi-component reaction of various a...
متن کاملSolvent Extraction Spectrophotometric Determination of Vanadium Using Sodium Salt of 2-Mercapto-Pyridine-N-Oxide as a Reagent
A solvent-extraction spectrophotometric technique is proposed as a new method for determination of trace quantities of vanadium. Sodium salt of 2-mercapto-pyridine-N-oxide (thione) forms a complex with vanadium instantaneously. The purple 1:2 complex is formed of pH 2.3, easily extracted in chloroform and shows strong absorbance at 500 nm. The extracted complex is found to obey Beer's law i...
متن کاملDetermination of water (moisture) and dry matter in animal feed, grain, and forage (plant tissue) by Karl Fischer titration: collaborative study.
A Karl Fischer method for determining water (dry matter) in animal feed and forages was collaboratively studied. Water was extracted from animal feed or forage material into methanol-formamide (1 + 1) directly in the Karl Fischer titration vessel by high-speed homogenization. The water was titrated at 50 degrees C with one-component Karl Fischer reagent based on imidazole. Ten blind samples wer...
